According to LOUDWIRE, Mastodon has begun work on their new album. Guitarist Brent Hinds says “shaping up to be a double album.” As new information is coming to light fans have a little more news to be excited about, an Instagram clip posted by guitarist Brent Hinds.
Mastodon has been active in the live performance area this year performing at the Pemberton Music Festival, Project Pabst, Heavy Montreal and Bloodstockfest.
The video was posted on the popular social media app Instagram. Brent Hinds can be seen in the video performing a guitar solo. The uploaded video is captioned with “A Lil sneak preview at failed guitar solo attempt working on the new mastodon album!!” Like many artists Brent didn’t not seem to be pleased with the way that he played the guitar as can be seen from him shaking his head in disappointment.
Hinds spoke with Guitar World, “One is an album I wrote myself and recorded with Brann [Dailor, drums] and Troy [Sanders, bass and vocals] during the Once More ‘Round the Sun sessions. My part is called Cold Dark Place, and it has to do with a nasty breakup that I went through. I wrote some pretty dark, beautiful, spooky, funky, ethereal, melancholy music, which also sounds like the Bee Gees a little bit [laughs]”
When it comes to the other component of the not yet titled album, “The other guys are writing another album, which I haven’t even heard yet so I can’t tell you what it sounds like. But I’ll come in to give some noodle-y leads here and there.”
The band has called on producer Brendam O’Brien who has previously worked with bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, and AC/DC. They are aiming for an early 2017 release date.
