The Pixies, who recently performed for the David Bowie Tribute shows, have just wrapped up their four-show “warm up” run in Southern California, but in their busy schedule performing, the Boston native alt-rock band have found some time to produce and release the new music video for the track “Classic Masher” off their new Head Carrier LP. Bassist Paz Lenchatin, who has directed several short films and videos has chosen to once again to don the hat of director for the group’s new video, which was shot in Los Angeles earlier this month.

The video is a somewhat surreal short film, seemed to be shot and edited in the style of old 1920’s cinema, with a musical twist. It opens up with an elderly man, played by Lenchantin’s father Mario Merdirossian, sitting in front of a piano, but the image is sort-of split horizontally and choppy, as he plays the opening keys the song begins with a heavy guitar twang (which is obviously not coming from the piano) that The Pixies opened the track with. The next sequence happens when the vocals come in, with the film showing a piano with giant lips on it, graffitied by Jules Muck “MuckRock”, that seem to be humming to the song. The rest of the video features jump cuts between the elderly piano player, the piano with the lips, and three women, played by Hannah Vandermolen (driver), Adelaide Crocker (middle seat), that seem to be singing along to the track, but out of synch, in their car.

Lenchantin commented on his music video, stating “Mephistopheles, the mocking and sarcastic devil behind every classic masher…Besides that, who doesn’t like a talking piano?”

The Pixies are about to head out to Europe for a nearly sold out Tour that will have them traveling until mid-December, and even though it is a crazy schedule, they may still find time to create a few more music videos for their new album.
