Rough Trade Announces 40th Anniversary Show with Thurston Moore and John Zorn Performing Together

Rough Trade, record shop chain, is turning 40 years old this year and have been celebrating throughout the year with collaborative concerts in the UK, but its time now for them to be here in the US. According to Brooklyn Vegan, Rough Trade’s NYC branch will be having the first of the  US concerts on November 23, with Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, who most recently released single in support of Chelsea Manning as well as art for the American Cancer Society, bringing long time friend John Zorn with him for highly anticipated performace. Tickets for the show went on sale earlier today on AXS.

The concert is a special performance “in collaboration with Ecstatic Peace Library to launch the new facsimile edition of the complete print run of MUSICS edited by David Toop and Steve Beresford” which is defined as follows “Musics: A British Magazine of Improvised Music & Art. From 1975 to 1979, London improvisers published the most innovative artists and musicians of their generation in the magazine Musics. Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, John Zorn, David Toop, John Russell, The Feminist Improvising Group, Bob Cobbing, ICP, Martin Davidson, Madelaine Davidson, Annabel Nicholson, Han Bennink, Eddie Prevost, David Cunningham, Steve Beresford among many, many, many others were contributors. After forty years these journals are available in a complete facsimile bound edition.”

John Zorn has been a veteran on the downtown scene for quite some time, with his venue The Stone which consistently has really cool, experimental, improvisational shows happening. There is even an upcoming Bardo Pond/Galacto show, however, it will be without Thurston playing for Galacto this time.

Hopefully there will be more US Rough Trade shows after this one, NYC never disappoints when it comes to its live music.
