Unfortunately earlier this year, A Tribe Called Quest lost one of their co-founders Phife Dawg. Now the group is reuniting for one last album dropping November 11th.
Q-Tip, who founded the hip-hop group with Phife and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, turned to Facebook and Twitter to post a handwritten note revealing the untitled project which will be the first since 1998’s The Love Movement.
Last year around this time, Q-tip, Jarobi, Ali, and Phife performed on the Tonight Show, their first TV appearance in 18 years. The night of the performance was also the night of the tragic Paris bombing, Friday November 13th. After such a filled night, they felt compelled and inspired to get back to the studio and started that “Cook up.” During the production of the album, the group was hit hard by the loss of Phife Dawg. Before leaving though, he left the group a blueprint for the album.
For the album, they came together with the help of Busta Rhymes and Consequence to complete the album. The album will not be just filled with old Phife Bars, but rather new material. November 11th will definitely be an epic day for A Tribe Called Quest fans everywhere.
UPDATE (11/5): The title and details of A Tribe Called Quest’s final album have been released. The album will be called We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service. The album will be a who’s-who of guest appearances, including Kendrick Lamar, Elton John, Jack White, Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, Consequence, Talib Kweli and Anderson .Paak. It will be released on November 11 via Epic Records.
