That’s what you did with my album,” Taylor Swift tells Ryan Adams in an interview with Rolling Stones. In September 2015, Ryan Adams had released cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989 Grammy-winning album. Swift had mentioned beforehand that she was thrilled by the idea of an Adams cover album for 1989. Both Swift and Adams in interviews have mentioned their musical admiration for one another. After debuting his cover album of 1989, he hit No.7 on the US Billboard 200 Chart. Along with the immense amount of popularity with this cover album, he had surpassed the original album (Taylor Swift version) who was stuck at No. 48th on the US Billboard 200 Chart.
Moving forward to 2016, a fan on Twitter tweeted toward Adams suggesting that he makes a cover album for Oasis, Be There Now. Adams responded, “Thanks but not gonna cover an album again.” Adams indicated that 1989’s polarized reception had given him a new outlook on releasing these types of projects. “1000 jabs later, what we made for fun has been made to be something else, learning to share less.” He said in an interview.
When another fan on Twitter had asked him about his cover of The Stroke’s, Is This It; he wrote, “It will never be released. It wasn’t ever meant to be.” He furthered his thoughts on the album saying, it was never meant to be release. It was specifically for a laugh and that it had been “thrown out by accident.” Of course, fans all over did not believe his “throwing out by accident” possibility.
