Legendary horror punk act The Misfits played at Chicago Riot Fest in their original incarnation, featuring Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein. Footage of the concert can be viewed below:
In an interview with Blabbermouth, Danzig commented on the reunion,
“We’ll see how it goes. It may lead to some other work, but who knows how it’s going to turn out? I mean, I don’t think it’s going to be a disaster; I think it’s going to be incredible.”
Danzig and Only engaged in legal battles for years over the Misfits band name, and ironically, it was the 2014 legal troubles that ultimately led to the reformation of the band.
The band did not merely unite for one performance, they are currently collaborating on a completely new album altogether. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Danzig elaborated,
“Eventually, Doyle, Glenn and I have to write new albums. Why don’t we work together and make the greatest album ever? It’s great playing together again. We’ve got a rehearsal space and it’s really fun. We keep laughing. That’s when you know it’s good.”
Luckily for fans of the band, they all seem to be getting along better than they have in decades. Starting in 1977, the band became known for their aggressive style that showcased themes of horror, science/pulp fiction, and B-movies. Most notably, they pulled from the 1950’s rock and roll style and modernized it with edgier punk themes, giving their music an upbeat yet dark humored theme.
