Heavy metal group Slayer, who are currently on tour with Anthrax along with Death Angel, and seem to feel like they are back in 1969. According to Loudwire, during a recent live performance soundcheck, the two bands decided that it was time to provide the crowd with a little fun before they started thrashing. As a tribute to Canada, the group decided to soundcheck with their cover of Bryan Adams’ famous “Summer of ’69” track.

Newest member of Anthrax, Jon Donais, posted video on his Instagram feed of the little tribute song. Catching the two bands joining forces with Gary Holt, guitarist for Slayer/Exodus and Anthrax frontman Joey Belladonna to bring their own flavor to the people with their rendition of this rock n roll classic.

When Loudwire sat down with Holt, he commented “I’m a classic rock guy. That was my upbringing before I ever evolved into heavy metal. I’m the youngest out of six kids and five of us are boys. I grew up listening to what my brothers were listening to, which included stuff like Skynyrd. Tom was the one who actually got that started and then we pulled out Skolnick into it. That was some of the most fun I’ve ever had on the stage in my life, was playing ‘Free Bird’ at soundcheck.” referring back in March when there was found footage of the band performing the famous Lynyrd Skynyrd hit.

This new tour has kicked off with a bang, and the bands seem to be having plenty of fun from beginning until the very last seconds of their show, giving fans even more than what they bargained for. With plenty more tour stops for the group to visit, it is safe to assume that they will be throwing in more classic rock tributes to get the crowds going before their set. Who knows what they’ll throw at us next.
