El Rey Theater welcomes anti-folk singer/songwriter Regina Spektor. If you watched 500 Days of Summer, or Orange is The New Black you have already heard her. Her songs “Hero” and “Us” were featured in the indie film, which earned the movie a best music nomination, along with her hit track ” You’ve got Time” earning a Grammy.
Regina Spektor born in Russia, raised in the Bronx, had begun playing the piano at the age of seven. Spektor’s piano training is a prominent implication in her music, her quirky, fun songs are always followed behind a lovely piano melody. She first began writing music at 16. Then after attending New York State University, she self-produced and released her own album 11:11. Only in 2004, did she sign with record label Sire Records. Her career took off after multiple hit songs. Take a listen down below:
