After giving us one hell of a memorable NSFW music video with “Medusa’s Outhouse”, which provided an inside, behind-the-scenes look into the porn industry, intimate folk rock artist Cass McCombs has released another memorable music video. According to Stereogum, this new video also comes off his recent Mangy Love album, entitled “Opposite House” and is memorable for a whole other set of reasons.
The new track features the backing vocals from Angel Olsen, who also appears in the video, but not as the star. Directed by Jonny Look, the video opens up to a very 80’s themed set, the screen is black and white, the characters are wearing fashion from that era, and even the font that introduces each character is something out of a sitcom from that time period. Neither Olson nor McCombs star as the main character, rather it centers around to individuals who have an incredible knack for performing tricks with water in teapots. With the music in the background we see these two individuals launch water (or tea) from these teapots across the tables into teapots, causing the viewer to wonder what in god’s name is going on?! However, it does not come off as upsetting, only a tad confusing.
Every so often McCombs is featured playing the guitar and performing his funk-esque sounding track. As per usual, McCombs leaves a strong impression on the viewers and causes a sense of wanting more, and with the new album on the horizon, it looks like perhaps we will see more weirdness coming out of McCombs and his visual team.
