News just keeps getting better for fans of the ever-so-popular American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, last month there was the news that original bassist for the group, D’arcy Wretzky, was open to possible reunion with former bandmates, Billy Corgan and James Iha, after news back in January surfaced that Corgan was looking to “find peace” between the three. Now, according to Consequence of Sound, the reunion tour that Corgan has been hinting to, and fans have been clamoring for, may have become one step closer to becoming a reality.

Earlier today, Corgan posted a video on Smashing Pumpkins’ Facebook page that he and Wretzky were finally making amends with each other, after not speaking for nearly two decades they have finally chosen to put their problems in the past and move forward, and in the last few months they have been rebuilding their friendship, with optimistic reactions from both sides. In the video Corgan mentions “First off, we’re back in contact again, the band,” he continues “I’ve been in communication with D’arcy for the first time in 16 or 17 years, it’s awesome to have my friend back. So we’re all in communication, which as I said not too long ago, my primary interest in the old band was us having good relationships again.”

Corgan still remains reserved and is not trying to oversell it just yet, he goes on to say “We’re not interested, nor have we ever been interested, in just going out to play because there’s a big stack of money there,” he claims. “Of course the business is part of what goes on, but the band was never about that, and if the band should ever be again in that form, in some iteration, obviously because there’s other people involved, because it would be about the music.” However, the strength of the music is dependent on the strength of friendship between these three band member.

Corgan concludes with great optimism regarding the future of him and the band, “There’s excitement there that surrounds the idea that maybe there’s the possibility that we will get back together, but until you here it coming from my mouth that the band is getting back together and we will play dates, my primary concern is the family relationships of the band that are ultimately so much more important.”

He signs off by giving the fans a nod, and pointing out that when they return, it will be something to remember. “I can tell you without a doubt that if that band ever gets back on stage, it will be about music, it will be about playing music that fans love, and that we love”. With some hope, we will be sure to see Smashing Pumpkins on stage in the near future.
