Today we look back at the memorable moment onstage at a 1993 show in Pittsburgh, when Thom Yorke (Radiohead) and Tanya Donnelly (Belly) performed a duet of “Untogether”.
Radiohead opened/co-toured with Belly in 1993, despite their label Capital Records wanting them to reunite on a tour with fellow labelmates Duran Duran. It wasn’t just the performance that was memorable, but the sweet kiss that Thom Yorke and Tanya Donnelly gave each other at the end of the performance. The video of the performance comes as an exciting surprise of many who have followed Radiohead and Belly throughout the years, because many fans who were at the Bowery Ballroom in Pittsburgh that night didn’t think they would ever be able to relive that touching moment. Luckily, the video is now on Youtube and fans can relive this moment as many times as physically possible.
Both Belly and Radiohead have made headlines this year. In February, Belly announced on their website that they are reuniting and releasing new music. Belly has also started North American tour, which is their first tour since 1995. Belly’s first performance was in their hometown of Newport, Rhode Island in early July of this year.
On May 1, 2016 Radiohead replaced all content from their websites and social media sites with blank images. This move excited fans and music websites everywhere (us included), and everyone came to believe that Radiohead had something up their sleeves ready to release. And the speculation came true on May 3rd, when Radiohead released a stop-motion music video for their new song “Burn the Witch”. Three days later on May 6, Radiohead released another new single for their song “Daydreaming” in the form of another music video, but this time directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood, Magnolia, Boogie Nights) and screened in 35 mm film in select theaters. Radiohead then released their ninth studio album A Moon Shaped Pool on May 8th on digital platforms and also had physical copies released month following via XL Recordings. Radiohead began their accompanying tour following the album release in May, and their album A Moon Shaped Pool has recently been nominated for the Mercury Prize shortlist, making them the most shortlisted group in the prizes history.
