Queens Street Corner to be Renamed Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor Way in Honor of Late Rapper

A street in Queens will be renamed in honor of late rapper Phife Dawg. The city of New York will name part of Linden Ave at 192nd Street in Queens “Malik ‘Phife Dawg’ Taylor Way”. Taylor passed away earlier this year in March from complications with diabetes. He was 45.

Phife Dawg was a member of the group A Tribe Called Quest. He started the group with Kamaal Fareed a.k.a. Q-Tip who is also a Queens native. Linden Ave carries a lot of meaning for the late rapper, as he mentioned it in several of his songs including “Check the Rhime” and “Steve Biko”. It is also where the rapper got his start. A mural was recently completed near where the street sign will be revealed. The mural reads “A Tribe Called Quest. Represent, Represent.”
