According to Pitchfork, Claire Elise Boucher, Canadian producer better known for her stage name Grimes, released her new track “Medieval Warfare” earlier today on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, followed by an interview with Grimes about the new track. If you recall, back in June, the soundtrack for the new motion picture “Suicide Squad” was announced, and Grimes is featured on the tracklist, in fact, the producer tweeted the news the day before the news was released.
During the interview, Grimes said that she was inspired to work on this project from the characters in the movie, saying she’s always been familiar with several of the iconic villains in the film, and really wanted to be a part of the project when she heard about the opportunity.
Grimes stated in the interview “the song starts off normal and then ends weird”, and listening to the track you can really see what she meant by that. The track follows a TRVP style formula, drum and snare open up the track with a background guitar rift, the track progresses with vocals that fit the “Suicide Squad” Vibe culminating into a bass drop that carries a very strong hip-hop beat and strong bass tones, the are vocals that are peppered into the mix to give the track some real life, finishing off with a fade out that leaves the listener wanting even more.
When Zane asked if a tour will be in the near future, Grimes said she intends to adamantly train for the next two years in order to compete in the UFC, and even though she does not really believe she will make it to the professional level, she intends to pursue the training that goes into it and see how far she can go. Hopefully she won’t end up getting in the ring but instead take her usual spot behind the keys, entertaining her adoring fans. However, if she does end up battling on the mats, her fans will still be there rooting for her to kick some ass.
