Underground hip-hop godfather Kool Keith announced earlier this week that he will release his upcoming album, Feature Magnetic, on September 16. The Ultramagnetic MC’s rapper also premiered new single, “World Wide Lamper”, which is set to feature on the new LP.
“World Wide Lamper” features B.a.R.S Murre and Dirt Nasty and continues Keith’s late career resurgence. The track’s production, handled by Keith under the alias Number One Producer, is reminiscent of Keith’s work with futuristic producer Dan the Automator, employing minimalist synth blips and heavy bass. Keith trades bars with Murre and Dirt Nasty, spitting characteristically off-kilter rhymes to counterbalance the more staid featured rappers. Importantly, Keith is not consumed by his lyrical idiosyncrasies, rapping with true technical proficiency.
Feature Magnetic will be released via Mello Music Group, and will feature multiple acclaimed underground MC’s, including MF Doom, Ras Kass, Sadat X, and Slug. Kool Keith previously released his collaborative LP with L’Orange, Time? Astonishing!, through the label.
Kool Keith has grown more productive with age, releasing seven album since 2010 and 14 since 2000. His most recent album, 2015’s A Couple of Slices, marked his first collaborative effort with producer Ray West.
