Omar Rodriguez-Lopez To Release 12 Solo Albums On Ipecac Records Before Year’s End

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (At the Drive-In and Mars Volta) has announced that he will release 12 previously unreleased solo albums that were recorded between 2008-2013.

Starting next week through the middle part of December, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez fans will have a new solo album on a bi-weekly basis (or every second Friday) via Ipecac Recordings. Rodriguez-Lopez reportedly has 12 unreleased LPs that were recorded between 2008-2013 while he lived in Zapopan, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. All LPs will be available digitally, before the whole set will be available as a collection via a limited edition CD/LP box set (listed below).

Despite having to cancel a few recent North American tour dates, Rodriguez-Lopez is still committed to the current revival of At the Drive-In. Even with his revival hopes, the guitarist will still maintain a prolific solo presence via this upcoming album series. News of this series came July 7th through a press release detailing a number of previously unreleased records of Rodriguez-Lopez. The first album set to release is Sworn Virgins, which will be available on CD, LP and as a digital download on July 15.

Ipecac co-owner Greg Werckman is excited about the news of the album’s from Rodriguez Lopez, saying: “We had all admired Omar’s work from afar and then recently got to know him up close. It was so great to find out that as talented as he is, he is an even better human being and we love having him as part of the Ipecac family”.

Rodriguez-Lopez is also excited with the relationship between himself and Ipecac, “I feel grateful and fortunate enough to have found this with such amazing people: Mike, Greg, Shawn, Marc and the Ipecac family. After throwing around many different project ideas, this seemed like the best place to actually begin, on what will surely be a long-lasting collaboration”. “I can’t think of a better home for these records or of another label crazy enough to put out this much material. The series also owes its blood to the hard work and talents of Jon Debaun and Chris Common, who diligently scoured through endless hard drives to find these albums and provide such stellar mixes”, he added.

For this record, I was contracted to make music for a movie that didn’t materialize. The producer wanted the songs and especially the lyrics to be straight and simple. When my mother, who was the main inspiration for the record, passed away I had to hire my friend Sam Margolis to help me finish the production. 2012.
