Maryland Deathfest Announces 2017 Lineup Featuring Morbid Angel, Autopsy And Dopethrone

Extreme metal festival Maryland Deathfest has revealed the first portion of its lineup, consisting of 19 bands highlighted by metal veterans Death Angel and Autopsy. The festival will celebrate its 15th anniversary this Memorial Day weekend, and will be held in and around the Baltimore area.

The four day festival is set to feature undercard acts including Acid King, Brodequin, Decrepit Birth, Dopethrone, Embalmer, Iron Lung, Kerasphorus, Macabre, Nightbringer, Nordjevel, Siege and Usurper. Festival organizers will reveal additional acts throughout the rest of 2016 and early 2017.

Death metal titans Morbid Angel will likely need to fill multiple vacancies prior to performing at Maryland Deathfest. The group, currently comprised of founding guitarist Trey Azagthoth and bassist / vocalist Steve Tucker, announced the departures of guitarist Thor Anders Myhren, drummer Tim Yeung, and frontman David Vincent last year. Morbid Angel last performed live in 2014, and last issued new music in 2011.

Fellow headliners Autopsy have only recently stabilized their lineup after years of upheaval. The death-doom pioneers reunited after over a decade of separation in 2008, releasing three LP’s since that time.

Norweigen heavy metal group In the Woods… and early grindcore practitioners Terrorizer have generated the most buzz amongst metal heads. In the Woods… recently released their first LP in nearly 20 years, and are currently touring for the first time since 2000. Terrorizer, meanwhile, will perform the entirety of its landmark debut album, World Downfall.

Early bird festival passes for Maryland Deathfest have already sold out. Festival organizers are expected to announce the sale date for regular four day passes shortly.
