David Lynch is known for many things, American director, screenwriter, visual artist, musician, actor, and author, very well known for his surrealist films, and creative art. It seems that now he has chosen to add festival curator to his resume by presenting a new music & arts festival to the scene. Hitting the streets of downtown Los Angeles on October 8th and 9th, The David Lynch Foundation is presenting its first ever Festival Of Disruption. An entirely immersive experience where Lynch has invited his favorite musicians, visual artists, virtual reality creators, choreographers, DJ’s and so much more to come together and perform at the Ace Hotel and Theatre in LA.
The David Lynch Foundation, the foundation created by Lynch himself in order to help prevent and eradicate the epidemic of trauma and toxic stress in the population through meditation, has brought together artist and visionaries from all over in order to raise consciousness and funds through a crazy two-day event. The festival will feature a smattering of talented musicians such as Robert Plant & the Sensational Space Shifters, St. Vincent, Questlove, plus several other big name musical artists. It will also feature talks with Frank Gehry, Director/Writer/Producer Mel Brooks, Kyle MacLachlan & Laura Dern, including other speakers.
David Lynch will also feature his own photography exhibits that will be curated by Kayne Griffin Corcoran gallery, and will have work by Chris Stein as well. Also featured in this festival will be VR experiences by Chris Milk, a choreographed dance piece by Ryan Heffington, and very interestingly screenings of rarely seen Lynch short films and classics, plus daily Transcendental Meditation session, and plenty more activities. Allowing fans to experience the unique world of David Lynch in every way seems to be what Festival of Distruption is going for.
All of the proceeds from the festival will go to benefit the David Lynch Foundation, where the Transcendental Meditation technique has been proven to help reduce toxic stress and trauma among at-risk population, including victims of domestic violence, PTSD suffering veterans, and urban youths. Since founding in 2005 the foundation has reached more than 500,000 people. and has helped many of them cope with day to day lives. With this festival coming into the scene, it looks like the foundation will reach even more people.
