Metronomy, the electronic group fronted by Joseph Mount, have shared a new song off their upcoming new album Summer 08. “Back Together” was released today via NME, and is the opening song off the upcoming fifth LP from the band. This new track follows their last single release, which was last month, for their track “Old Skool”.
Joseph Mount explained in previous statements that this new album will be a sort-of sequel to the 2008 effort the band released Nights Out. Mount described it as “a half-arsed concept album about going out and having a crap time”, and felt that it needed a follow-up album to make up for the lack of effort the previous LP had.
When sitting down with Q Magazine in April, he told them “I just wanted to make an uptempo record,” continuing “I wanted to try and do another record that captures that fading memory of being a bit younger and going to clubs, but with the confidence I didn’t have then”. When speaking on the Annie Mac’s BBC 1 show in May, he said “the most fun thing I’ve done in a long time”.
Opening up with up tempo electronic scales, leading into the fun vocals that the band is known for, the new track gives great expectations to what the new album will hold from this enjoyable group. With Beastie Boys’ Mix Master Mike on “Old Skool”, who knows which other legendary artists will be featured in the upcoming LP, offcially released on July 1st.
