Boris, the avant-garde metal trio from Japan has announced earlier today that they will be releasing 10th year anniversary deluxe reissue of Pink, the groups 10th album from 2006. In addition to the announcement, the band has also chosen to release a bonus album which features previously unreleased tracks that were recorded during the same time Pink had been in the recording process. To help promote the reissuing, Boris will launch a full U.S. tour beginning in July, in which Pink will be performed in its entirety with the group’s labelmates Earth, who will open for the full tour besides two dates in Canada.
Pink was the group’s 10th album and truly their most breakthrough work , it earned them new fans who were not part of the underground metal community, and was praised countless times, landing on many “best of the year” lists from underground metal websites to mainstream rock mags. Its exploration into shoegaze and ambient structures that played along side searing psychedelia and apocalyptic overtones which created a benchmark on the Japanese trio’s careers.
The deluxe set for the reissue will contain three LP box set and two CD’s, featuring an entire album of unreleased tracks titled Forbidden Songs. A collection of 9 tracks that were recorded during 2004-2005, as Pink was being recorded at the same time. The tracks feature the same hyperactive, accessible and aggressive caliber as Pink does, it was mixed together (with additional editing and arrangements) last year, and mastered earlier in January of this year. Pink’s LP will come with three longer edits to “Farwell”, “Pseudo-Bread”, and “My Machine”, all of which were prime tracks on the original CD issue. Besides for those additions, plus artwork of the original Japanese release made by the band themselves, the LP and CD will have the same audio as the 2006 release.
With Wata on Guitar and vocals, Atsuo slamming the percussion, and Takeshi hitting the Bass guitar and vocals, Boris manages to succeed where many bands fail, swiftly changing styles from one song to the next in an explosive manner while still remaining true to their original sound.
Now on their 24th year as a band, Boris is showing no signs of stoppage or even slowing down. They continue to demolish expectations and always make sure the fans are getting what they want, and need. It doesn’t look like this game plan of theirs will be changing in the future.
The reissue of Pink will be available everywhere, besides Japan, on July 8th via Sargent House
