Consequence of Sound reported earlier today, Spanish indie rock band from Madrid, Hinds, who recently performed at South by Southwest, have released a new music video to their track “Easy”, giving the viewer a very uneasy performance to the song. The video gives a view into the ugly stages of an ending relationship. Using lighting, make-up, and musical interlude to tie together a story that just brings to mind how messy it all can be.

Hinds, lo-fi rockers on the Mom + Pop Record label, have for the most part always been known for their sloppy, but gleeful, live performances, really giving the audience a show worth their money. Their new video however gives a different meaning to the words sloppy, director John Strong stated that the video is meant to explore “the ways in which people torture themselves following a break-up”. “Easy” features close up performances by the band members, but as the video goes on, the viewer notices that the Madrid rockers’ faces begin to alter. With streaks of their make-up running down their face, mouths becoming covered in what seems like spaghetti sauce, and penises drawn onto their cheeks, this video truly showcases the nasty side of ending a relationship.

The band’s own description of the song ties in perfectly with the description of the song, calling it “the worst moment in the universe during a relationship because you love him but he doesn’t anymore. And being in bed with him is giving him nightmares. And you are the hangover in his mornings, and the homework during the day and the pain in his ass. So when you reach that point you can’t help but self destruct. There is just nothing you can do, it’s too late to take it easy.”

The band is never shy to try shocking and awing their audiences, and this video lives up to their standards and reputation. Perhaps more videos are in the works from this fascinating group of musicians.
