Announced earlier today via Pitchfork, indie rock and Cincinnati native band, The National is set to headline Welcome to Hamilton, the appropriately named Hamilton, Ontario, based benefit. Taking place on June 3rd at the New Vision United Church, the rock troupe will be joined on the bill by the likes of Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, Arkells’ Max Kerman, Mother Tareka, and plenty more in order to support a beneficial cause.
There have been over 27,000 Syrian refugees who have made this place home, National’s manager Brandon Reid and his partner Amanda, have gotten together with Hamilton natives to create this event, Welcome to Hamilton is a Benefit Concert for these refugee youths who have settled in Hamilton, Ontario, .where all proceeds will go towards funding music, arts & recreational programming for newcomer youth.
The benefit is being put on by Supercrawl Production, who have put together a star studded lineup that will surely bring in large crowds to this upstanding event. The National are set to headline the festivities, following up shows from Hayden, Kevin Drew, Max Kerman, Terra Lightfoot, and cameo appearances by Crystal Journey and Mother Tereka. Wesley Urban Ministries, an agency dedicated to the resettlement of refugees, offering a range of integration services, has teamed up and taken the responsibility of dispensing all the money that is raised.
Tickets to the benefit go on sale online and in select Hamilton retailers on Friday, May 13, at 10 AM. selling for $100 a ticket.
