According to Consequence of Sound, Gov’t Mule, the legendary Southern rock jam band, have announced the release of a brand new archival album, The Tel-Star Sessions is a remastered, 10-song preview of some of the band’s earliest recording sessions. Evil Teen is giving Mule fans the opportunity of a lifetime, by giving these early demos the royal treatment, and providing audiences with a real insight into the early stages of a band, whom just by the sound, you knew were going to become one of the greats.
When guitarist Warren Haynes, bassist Allen Woody, and drummer Matt Abts would come together, on their downtime from performing with the Allman Brothers Band, back in the early 90’s, there seem to be this energy about them that would indicate this band was on to something special together. When the trio stumbled into Tel-Star Studios, in Bradenton, FL, in June of 94, they decided it was time to cut their first studio demos. Creating a 10-track preview of for other studios, that basically indicated everything that band would become, showcasing the three legends in their best form; raw, live, loud, and beaming with young energy trying to prove themselves to the world. Honing in on their particular brand of music, Allman Brothers sound engineer, Bud Snyder was able to coax the – little bit grungy, but ever so classic rock sounds – that define this epic band.
These demos have not seen the light of day, so in order to provide them with the high treatment they deserved, Evil Teen are making these tracks available not only digitally, as well as single CD, but they also have decided to jump on the vinyl train that many artist are choosing to hop on. Coming out in a 180-gram double-vinyl set, which will include a limited edition version with different artwork and a white album.
In order to preview this upcoming album, and get fans blood rushing even more than it is from the announcement, Gov’t Mule has shared with the public a cover of “Just Got Paid”, by ZZ Top, which will also appear on the album. When Haynes sat down with Consequence of Sound he explained that “Early ZZ Top was definitely an influence on the Mule, ‘Just Got Paid’ was one of the first covers we worked up when we only knew a handful of songs”. Providing a sneak peak into the early mechanics of their young selves, and a insight into the birth of their undeniably strong Chemistry.
