Back in January news development suggested that Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan may have been open to reuniting the band back together to its original classic lineup. He expressed his desire to “find peace” with previous band mates James Iha and D’arcy Wretzky, and two months after, he had found his way to reunite onstage with Iha, first in Los Angeles and once more in Chicago giving fans long awaited comeback, only at semi strength. However, According to Consequence of Sound, during an interview with BlastEcho, Wretzky has revealed that she also is considering rejoining the group after several requests to reunite, giving fans a glimmer of hope that the legendary Smashing Pumpkins will return once more.

When Wretzky sat down with BlastEcho, she stated “Circumstances would have to be a certain way,”  discussing a potential reunion “It’s much too complicated”, adding that she and Corgan have not spoken since she was fired from the group back in 1999, but still remains in contact with Iha over the years. Fans will recall that Corgan considered Wretzky to be the “moral conscience” of the band, marking her time in the band with alternating periods of happiness and discomfort. Then, during their “The Arising” tour in April of 1999, when the original four were performing together for the first time since 1996, Wretzky decided to leave the band in order to pursue her attempt in the acting world, and after being arrested on possession of crack cocaine charges, Corgan told the media that she was fired due to her drug problem without the attempt to seek help.

Wretzky claimed in the interview, which she has not done in several years, that she is living the life of a “weekend-warrior” adding that she is “healthier now than she’s ever been”, going out for activities such as hang-gliding, skydiving and scuba diving to list only a few. At one point she asked during the interview why they did not ask if she had been on drugs anymore, but followed up stating “there are very few drugs that I can do and the ones that I could do stopped working so I stopped using them.”

D’arcy described the recent onstage collaboration between Iha and Corgan as “really healthy”, suggesting that perhaps Iha can restore the relationship between Corgan and Wretzky, just like Duff McKagan did for Slash and Axl Rose of Guns n’ Roses.

Hopefully as the next few months go on the relationship between the former bandmates will strengthen to the point where fans will once again see the classic legendary Smashing Pumpkins lineup.
