Sacramento experimental hip-hop group Death Grips have just announced through Pitchfork that they have picked a release date for the new upcoming album entitled Bottomless Pit, which they previously revealed back in October, initially accompanying the news of the LP with a video and a preview for their track “Hot Head”. The group has this time chosen to share the lyrics to the new album, making it available for download by all their fans, as well as finally providing the album with the long awaited release date via their semi-official Twitter account. The album is set to be released to the public May 6th, 2016 on vinyl, as well as CD, format, adding the group to the list of new age musicians bringing vinyl records back to life.
After receiving the news that Death Grips will be releasing a new album, fans were clamoring for information about it. Thankfully the group chose to preview things to come with a preview of the album with a new track “Hot Head”, they also released a video featuring the late Karen Black named after the upcoming album “Bottomless Pit”, where she read a dialogue written by Zach Hill. The video was made in 2013, not long after the video shoot ended Karen Black had passed away due to her long and hard battle with cancer.
A few years later the band shared a new video of them, a long video called “Interview 2016” which was a 32-minute video where the band sat down with actor/TV host Matthew Huffman to be interviewed, with instrumental music dubbed over the entire thing, later on releasing those instrumentals as standalone material.
Now as the build-up keeps getting bigger and bigger, stretching this out as much as they can, fans receive news that there is a release date set. The group has decided to bring all the murmurs and rumors to and end, announcing that the release of the new LP, which will be in early May.
Most of the time an artist will release a preview track for an upcoming album to get fans excited, Death Grips however already did that with “Hot Heads”, so instead of releasing another track, the group decided on providing fans with the entire set of lyrics to the full album tracklist on their website, Death Grips are creating a unique inside look that you do not see very often, showing fans the lyrical content first rather than the musical.
