Ice Cube pulled out all the stops on Saturday for his performance at Coachella. The ex-N.W.A. member, and successful solo star brought out some old friends and family for a rollicking set that would please any old-school hip-hop fan.
The big news came in the form of a performance alongside his fellow surviving original members of N.W.A. MC Ren and DJ Yella performed two classic cuts, “Fuck The Police” and “Straight Outta Compton” from their legendary Straight Outta Compton LP, released in 1988. Needless to say, the crowd certainly got their money’s worth with this one. Check out a performance below:
Next, Ice Cube was joined by Common, who also stars alongside him in the new film, Barbershop: The Next Cut. The duo performed a rendition of “Real People”.
The conveyor belt of big names kept rolling with an appearance from fellow West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg. Cube and Snoop performed a collaborative original from 2006, in the song “Go To Church”.
Finally, in a fitting conclusion, Ice Cube brought out his son, O’Shea Jackson to do “Dopeman”, before closing with the classic fan-favorite “Today Was A Good Day”.
Ultimately, it turned out to be a good night, not day, for the fans in attendance. We’ve known for a long time that Ice Cube can deliver star-studded performances, and Coachella 2016 further confirmed that fact.
