Earlier this year, Kristin Welchez, of the New York City based rock band Dum Dum Girls, announced that she would be venturing out on her own, launching a solo project under the moniker Kristin Kontrol.
A few months later she debuted her first track, X-Communicate and announced that the album would go by the same name.
Today, Kristin Kontrol’s new single, “Show Me,” premiered via i-D; it’s a slow burning, impeccably produced dance track full of “synth-sax flourishes and a minimal groove.” The track, produced by Kurt Feldman with Danny Meyer on saxophone. It manages to pay homage to the Dum Dum Girls sound while still going out on it’s own and creating a totally new aesthetic that we are all very excited to hear more of.
Welchez was the originator of the Dum Dum Girls. All of their early work was a collection of her bedroom recordings that got discovered and subsequently released by Subpop.
X-Communicate comes out on May 27 via Sub Pop Records. The album pre-order is underway here. Fans who pre-order X-Communicate digitally will instantly receive the title track. Additionally, the limited, blue-vinyl Loser Edition is available to pre-order customers at megamart.subpop.com, and at select independent record stores.
In addition to all of the new music announcements, some initial tour dates have been announced, which you can find here.
