Bat For Lashes, also known as instrumentalist and visual artist Natasha Khan, has just released the new video for the song “In God’s House.” The track is the latest single off her upcoming album, The Bride.
To say the video is hauntingly beautiful would be an understatement. It sees Khan in deep anguish while wandering through the middle of nowhere, kneeling before a grave and lit hearse. The video coincides with the central theme of The Bride. According to NME, it is a concept album that “follows the story of a woman whose fiance has been killed in a crash on the way to the church for their wedding. The Bride flees the scene to take the honeymoon trip alone, resulting in a dark meditation on love, loss, grief and celebration.”
The lyrics are truly heartbreaking, as she recounts the tale of her wedding day. “In God’s house I do wait/For my love on our wedding day/Dewy eyes and lashes long for my love/But I’m feeling something’s wrong.” The song cultivates in his death, with Khan repeating and placing a deep emphasis on the word “fire.”
Bat For Lashes released the first single, “I Do,” back in February, which was the first new music released since 2012. The video containing the audio featured a Save the Date card printed with July 1, which was later revealed to be the release date of The Bride.
Bat For Lashes also just announced Spring 2016 tour dates. Be sure to pick up the new album on July 1 and watch the video for “In God’s House” below
