The band Deftones, the American alternative metal-rock band from Sacramento, Ca, premiered their new track “Doom User” via Sirius XM satellite radio today. According to RollingStone magazine, the new track follows the recent more lush and psychedelic track “”Prayers/Triangles”, and veers more toward their most primal and metallic sound and showcased their art-metal veteran status. With lyrics that include lines such as “Your kingdom is burning” and “Don’t waste your breath.” with vocalist Chino Moreno singing over the barrage of smashing cymbals and de-tuned riffs, the new album indicates that the group is continuing on with their assault on the metal-rock world.
Frontman and lead vocalist Chino Moreno sat down with the radio station and discussed the new track, which the band had debuted live earlier in the month, stating “It’s got a rockin’ rhythm and a high tech sound that will make you shake your body down to ground”. Moreno claims that the tracks off the upcoming album Gore were crafted in a “heady”-er style than their normal past collection. “I feel like we’ve gone into the songs and really dissected them” he said when sitting down with RollingStone for an interview. “If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven’t done in the past. It definitely feels like we’ve taken a step from our last record. But it’s definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are. We’re not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box”, the 11-track album was co-produced by the band and Matt Hyde, and is set to be released April 8th Via Warner Bros. Records.
The new song definitely makes you want to “shake your body down to the ground”, but in a more destructive, angry, and aggressive sort of way, the kind of music that you would listen to when destroying a house, or hitting the gym, not the type of music you would want to hear while taking your girlfriend out dancing on a Saturday night.
The Deftones intend to return to the stage on Wed, March 16th at the Never Say Never Festival in Texas. After finishing of a run of several shows during March, the band plans to resume touring on yet another American coast to coast tour that will launch on May 8th.
