Archival record label Numero Group has announced that they will be releasing White Zombie’s out-of-print early EPs and LPs as a compilation called It Came From N.Y.C. on June 3rd of this year. The box set will contain five LPs or three compact discs, with all 39 tracks remastered by White Zombie’s guitarist J. Yuenger. It will also be packaged with the original artwork. A 108-page book will also be accompanying the box set, which documents the band’s journey and includes unpublished photos, period discography, a T-shirtography, and stories from the earlier years. This box set will be the biggest attempt so far to document White Zombie’s journey. It will also include a 20,000 word essay by Grayson Currin, a flyer gallery, 50 previously unpublished photos, and a complete Shirtography from 1985-1990.
Originally a noise rock band, White Zombie formed in 1985 in NYC and became better-known when they switched to a more heavy metal-oriented sound. This box set compiles from when White Zombie was a noise rock band, rather than the heavy metal sound they later became famous for. The band released four studio albums before they broke up in 1998. White Zombie was ranked as #56 on VH-1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock in 2000. Released in 1995, Astro-Creep: 2000, their fourth and final studio album, was their most commercially successful recording peaking at number six on the Billboard 200. It was easily their best-selling album and sold over 2 million copies in the U.S. It was certified Double Platinum by the RIAA as well as certified CAN platinum. White Zombie had plans to film a video for every single song off the album, but instead they disbanded.
