Sled Island Announces 2016 Lineup Featuring Guided By Voices, Deafheaven And Built To Spill

Calgary has just become a new destination on any festival goers tour, announced today with much excitement is Sled Island Music & Art Festival first wave of artist to their 2016 Bill. Setting itself apart from other music festivals, in its 10th year, Sled Island has thoughtfully chosen a lineup that hits on every part of the entertainment spectrum. Musicians, comedians, filmmakers, and artists will all be descending upon the Calgary, Alberta area between June 22nd & June 26th and from the looks of this lineup it seems there is much to be looking forward to in the early summer up in Canada.

The festival has consistently entertained the town of Calgary by bringing together over 250 bands, comedians, filmmakers and artists in more than 35 venues across the city. Since 2007, Sled Island’s thoughtful, eclectic programming and independent spirit have fused with Calgary’s youthful energy to produce a one-of-a-kind festival experience. The AV Club reviewed it by saying “Held every year for about the past decade in Calgary, Alberta, Sled Island is one of Canada’s best-kept festival secrets.” and CBC supports the quote “Sled Island is fast becoming one of Calgary’s most eclectic and expansive music festivals.” Every year Sled Island has pulled out all the stops and each year it has succeeded with flying colors.

This year looks to be no different, according to their first wave of artists, presenting proudly to their fans with a very special conjunction with their announcement. Lo-fi indie rock band Guided By Voices announced as well that they will be attending this festival as one of the stops on their long awaited reunion tour, the band will headline Sled Island’s main outdoor show at Calgary’s Olympic Plaza on June 25, 2016 in what is their only date announced thus far giving fans much to be excited over. Joining the indie group are bands who have graced the stage before, Built To Spill who performed at the festival in 2010 are set to return and dazzle their fans after a memorable show last time around, also returning to the stage and have not been back since appearing in 2009 is Health who are looking to bring their industrial dance noisemaker music to the festival.

Each year, Sled Island’s guest curator puts their stamp on the festival through special programming choices and with their presence at the event. Recently, Sled Island was proud to announce provocative musician-producer-filmmaker-performance artist PEACHES as 2016 guest curator. Peaches’ curatorial selections will be announced in the coming months, along with additional festival acts.

Three different types of tickets will be available for the festival; the Discovery ticket which provides access to all Sled Island events (250+ bands, comedy, film and art), subject to capacity, the Discovery Plus Pass giving the ticket holder All the benefits of a Discovery Pass, plus priority access to all Sled Island events subject to capacity (skip to the front of lines!), Artist Lounge privileges, a Sled Island delegate bag and more! and last is for the younger part of the crowd which is the All-Ages Pass that is just for attendees under 18, an All-Ages Pass offers full access to Sled Island’s all-ages venues.
