Artists come and go in the music scene, some creating small ripples that have no effect and just fade away, others create huge waves that change the world of music as we know it who are genuinely masters of their genre and can create gold whenever they choose to release new material out into the world of music. Such is the case with old time country music singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn who after 10 years since her last album, according to Pitchfork.com, has announced the release of her new studio album Full Circle (from Cash Cabin Studio) which is set to come out to the public on March 4th.
Composed of 13 brand new recordings the country musician from Butcher Hollow, Kentucky, is gearing up to make this new album one of her most innovative work yet. Full Circle takes a long look at the “First Lady of Country Music”‘s past and shows range from folksongs she learned as a child to updated versions of past hits. In fact, the first track that Lynn ever wrote “Whispering Sea” is changed to an updated version of the original song released in 1960 on “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl”, and her ’67 number-one hit “Fist City” which also got a much needed makeover to help stay with the times.
This new album will be less of a reinvention of her style and an exploration of her possible range as she did on her Jack White produced album Van Lear Rose over a decade ago, but rather a celebration of her natural skills as a country music artist, and proof that her age does not hold her back from doing what she has been known to do best.
Lynn has constantly toured on a regular basis, performing with many other artist of her genre, enhancing many shows with her unique country twang, Full Circles however captures a living legend who would rather record then retire. Recorded in the famous Cash Cabin Studio which was built by Johnny Cash in the late 70’s, the album was co-produced by daughter Patsy Lynn Russel and long family friend John Carter Cash to help provide a homie vibe to the LP. To assist with the feel of the album, two additional legends were brought in for appearances on the last two tracks of the album. Willie Nelson (featured on the track “Lay Me Down”) and Elvis Costello (featured on the track “Everything it Takes”), two artists who hold a permanent spot in the music Hall Of Fame, showcase their talents for Lynn and bring the whole album home with duets that compliment the Coal Miner’s Daughter and help prove that there is plenty of juice left in the tank for this 83 year-old cowgirl.
After 10 years of studio hiatus, we can see that Loretta Lynn is no amateur and firmly holds her spot in the country music world.
