Deerhunter Announce Spring 2016 Tour Dates

After coming off their recent album release Fading Frontier (off the 4AD record label),  the indie rock band Deerhunter has announced their last round of concert dates for the group’s upcoming tour. According to online magazine Pitchfork.com the band has added on to their multiple festival tour an extra set of shows at various venues in order to bring their fans even more joy with their self described “ambient rock”.  The group is set off to start their tour in Mexico at Festival NRMAL, continue on to the United States, and finishing it off in Europe playing two festivals on back to back weekends.

Coming off an extensive winter tour, which also took them to international locations spanning from Europe to many North America locations performing at several big music festivals, the Atlanta-based outfit has chosen to follow the same model and make sure that they provide their show experience to their ever growing fan base.

Composed of current band members; Frontman Bradford Cox (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Moses Archuleta (drums), Lockett Pundt (vocals, guitar), and Josh McKay (Bass) have all faced multiple challenges in order to get where they are today. Starting off in 2001 the group had a somewhat different cast of characters to bring them into the scene and was constantly revolving until they found their current arrangement. Deerhunter’s first stable lineup, which included guitarist Colin Mee and Julian Bosworth on bass guitar, ran into issues immediately as they began their journey with Bosworth unfortunately passing away due to head injuries suffered from a skateboarding accident, which influenced the band’s first studio album Turn It Up Faggot in 2005 and included Josh Fauver who occupied the late bass guitarists spot, and also Mee departing in 2008 due to disagreements on the band’s schedule and lack of participation on their two studio albums that were released that year. It was not until 2012, when their long time bassist chose to leave the band, which put the group’s future truly in doubt. However these doubts were put to rest after the band regrouped and recruited new members Josh McKay, the current bass guitarist, and Frankie Broyles, who left in 2014 in order to focus on his solo career, and manged to record their garbage rock influenced album Monomania.

Late in December 2014 Cox had gotten into a serious car accident which caused a huge influence on their most recent album, the accident caused serious injury “but also provided a perspective-giving jolt” according to Cox, he stated that it “erased all illusions” and was a enormous turning point in his life. Consequence of Sound wrote Fading Frontier is a filler-free opus of experimental rock splendor that never lags and always intrigues”, and the New York Times said “there’s a sun-dazed psychedelic shimmer to the songs that start Deerhunter’s seventh studio album . . . they arrive with major chords, soothing tempos and a consonant halo of reverb” showing that even though the band was changing, they still remained true to themselves.

Now, following this most recent release and winter tour, the group have once again decided to take their talents on the road to their adoring fans. With a number of shows in California, Colorado, and much of the west coast, not to mention in their home town of Atlanta, Georgia, the band looks to take the stages with force playing both festival and normal venue shows accompanied by their friends of the Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Ending at Field Day Festival in London Deerhunter plans on finishing with a bang and taking the popular UK fest stage with their act which seems to always stay fresh and exciting.
