LISTEN: Mark Kozelek Releases New David Bowie Cover “Win” Featuring Mike Patton

Mark Kozelek, lead singer of the American folk rock Sun Kil Moon, has released a cover of David Bowie’s song “Win” as a tribute to the recently deceased artist. The track features Mike Patton, lead singer of the alternative metal band Faith No More. This isn’t the first time Kozelek has used music as a tribute to others. Back in October, his band Sun Kil Moon released the song “Exodus” as a tribute to Nick Cave’s deceased son, who died at age 15 after falling off of an overpass.

Kozelek recently announced an all-covers album that will be called Mark Kozelek Sings Favorites expected to be released this spring. “Win” is the third track on the album and serves as a teaser for the rest of the upcoming album. Sun Kil Moon has released eight studio albums so far, their most recent album Jesu/Sun Kil Moon released just over a week ago on January 22nd.

Mike Patton has stayed very busy over the span of his career. He currently is the lead singer for the band Faith No More, but he also has undertaken solo work and other band projects, such as the experimental band Mr. Bungle (though they broke up in 2004). On top of that, he finds time to work on film as well as video games. He also is still involved in Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, and Fantomas. Just yesterday, Patton announced that he would be releasing a new collaborative album with Norwegian singer-songwriter and produce John Kaada. The LP, called Bacteria Cult, will be released on April 1.
