Iggy Pop And Josh Homme Announce Limited Run Of Post Pop Depression 2016 Tour Dates

It was whispered through the shadows of the music world, thought to be a rumor with hopes of truth, and now after all the waiting and hoping it has finally been announced. Iggy Pop has officially declared that he will be supporting the release of his new album Post Pop Depression (by Rekords Rekords/Loma Vista/Caroline International) with a limited run of one-time-only live performances on a international tour, that should bring in mass amount of publicity to the artist’s newest LP. Marking an incredible milestone in the performer’s career, Iggy Pop will be playing throughout the tour with the entire album band, including his collaborator on the album Josh Homme, making sure that the tracks being performed live will be in their most purest form, with shows booked in the US and Europe it looks like the rock icon will once again be able to entertain the masses as he has done so well in the past.

Since their most recent announcement of a new album Iggy Pop and Josh Homme have been performing small appearance shows on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and an exclusive profile on The NY Times. The Late Show performance debuted the first single of the album “Gardinia” which gave the first taste of what the album would sound like, and boy did it sound good. This track was an instant classic, showcasing Pop’s classic vocals that reminds us of the rock of old, as well as Homme’s backup guitar playing that delivers a unique tone to the song. That track release was closely followed by another advance track, “Break Into Your Heart” was also premiered by the band showing more incredible sounds that the new album might hold inside.

Paste Magazine gave a review of this track, claiming “Glorious… ’Gardenia’ itself feels like a callback to the glory days of new wave, with Iggy’s trademark low voice channeling the spirit of his dearly departed friend David Bowie. Homme provides backing vocals and typically excellent guitar work.” These feelings were echoed by Stereogum.com exclaiming “‘Gardenia’ has the same sort of mean, skeletal, machinelike groove that so many of those great old Iggy songs had… over this sort of spartan groove, he sounds awesome.”

The performances had fans clamoring for information about a possible tour, and after the one-two punch performances the announcement was finally made. Playing only in specially selected venues, Iggy Pop is boasting a major band line-up for this journey throughout the US and Europe. Joining Iggy on this sole occasion will be producer/guitarist/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/bandleader Joshua Homme, Homme’s Queens Of The Stone Age bandmate and Dead Weather-man Dean Fertita, as well as Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders—augmented by QOTSA multi-instrumentalist Troy Van Leeuwen and journeyman guitarist/bassist Matt Sweeney. This group of artist will provide the audience with the most raw and natural way the new abum, including several other Iggy classics that he has recorded over his solo career, should be heard live.

“Post Pop Depression… picks up where Lust for Life left off… The lyrics reflect on memories, hint at characters and offer advice and confessions; they can be hard-nosed, remorseful, flippant, combative or philosophical.” These words by The NY Times indicate that all the shows in this upcoming tour, starting in Seattle on March 28th and ending in Paris on the 15th of May, will have an incredible emotional and nostalgic tone that will introduce the new while bringing back the old.

Tickets for the North American leg of Iggy’s Post Pop Depression tour will be on sale to the general public January 30, with pre-sales commencing January 28. Tickets for the European leg will be on sale beginning January 29.
