American indie rock band School of Seven Bells has released a new song called “Ablaze” in anticipation of their upcoming album, SVIIB, to be released on February 26th of this year. Last week, the band released another track from the album called “On My Heart.” School of Seven Bells’ upcoming album is significant because it was the last album recorded before co-founder of the band Benjamin Curtis died in 2013 of lymphoma. The band originally consisted of Alejandra Deheza, her identical twin sister Claudia Deheza, and Benjamin Curtis. Claudia left the group in 2010, leaving the band with Curtis and Alejandra Deheza. With Curtis’s passing, Alejandra is the sole member remaining of School of Seven Bells. Alejandra mentioned that she and Curtis were closest during the time they spent recording the album prior to his death, which is why the album is very special to her.
“Ablaze” is a synthetic-pop track with soothing vocals that makes the listener feel as if they are floating through crowds. Critics are saying it is a beautiful tribute to the friendship between Alejandra and Benjamin. The song was produced by Benjamin Curtis and Justin Meldal-Johnsen, and mixed by Tony Hoffer, with Alejandra on the vocals.
