Bilbao BBK Live has announced their lineup for the 2016 edition of the festival, and includes some heavy hitting headliners in the indie rock realm such as Arcade Fire and The Pixies.
The festival, taking place from July 7-9, in Bilbao, Spain, will feature over a dozen acts spanning many different forms and styles. On top of the headliners, the lineup includes names such as veteran electronic indie rockers Hot Chip, 80s Joy Division-successors New Order, and recently acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett.
But for the fans attending the festival, two of the main draws should be the aforementioned headliners. Just over a year ago, The Pixies released the 25th anniversary edition of their classic 1989 LP, Doolittle, and have been on the road consistently in the past few years.
The Arcade Fire just recently announced some festival dates, including this one, as their first shows since 2014. It seems they are gearing up for full blown tour at some point in the relatively near future, but it remains to be seen if these shows are just a tune-up, or if more Summer dates will be announced. The band also had a hand in honoring the late David Bowie, taking part in a parade held in New Orleans. Their last LP, Reflektor, was released in 2013.
Needless to say, this is a festival that should be on the radar for every fan indie rock fan this summer. Even for stateside fans, a plane ticket to Spain would probably be worth it to see The Pixies. Be sure to keep your eye on this one.
