Announced today via Stereogum.com, the international music festival held in Mexico City known as Festival Nrmal has released it’s official lineup to their two day long event. Headliners that include Slowdive, Deerhunter, and Battles are looking to accompany a wide range of global artists, such as HEALTH, Jenny Hval, and Future Brown, in order to provide festival joy to central America. Bringing acts and artists from Mexico, and the Latin world, alongside other musicians hailing from the US and around the globe the festival manages to create an indie rock infused environment that provides a unique rarity in festival experiences that many look forward to on a yearly basis.
Festival Nrmal is a relatively new festival founded in 2010 by Todd Patrick, a well known independent festival producer and organizer from the United States, who came to Monterey, Mexico in order to curate this gem in the festival scene and introduce a rock genre that was not too popular to that area. Since its creation the festival has had the mentality that emphasizes a fresh, purposeful (with a touch of risky) musical event that focuses on the strength and quality of live acts, rather than the impact it has in the market. This motto brought forth a following that strongly leans towards the indie rock side of the musical spectrum. During its 7 year existence the festival has presented lineups that confirm its affinity with art projects that inject an international sound variety which many other festivals are not able to duplicate.
For the summer lineup of 2015 Festival Nrmal brought plenty of underground rock artists that only those who are in the scene could truly appreciate, but still was able to interest audience members who are new to this musical style. Phantogram, Porter, Swans, Twin peaks, these are only some of the names that were on the bill for the previous summer, it also included plenty of Latin world stars such as Simpson Ahueva, El Guincho, and Machinedrum, who all together helped make the rarest of beasts and the ultimate goal; a music festival with a unique identity and mass appeal.
This year, on March 12 & 13th, the festival will once again return to the city of Monterrey with an equally powerful lineup that is packed with plenty of acts that are both national as well as international acts to entertain the masses. With strong headlining acts booked such as Battles, Slowdive, Deerhunter, plus other less known but just as strong acts added to the list, Festival Nrmal shows that it can consistently provide the appropriate music lineup for their audience and it looks to have another successful two day extravaganza this year.
