A funeral was held in honor of the Eagles of Death Metal’s merchandise manager, Nick Alexander, who died during the terrorist attack in Paris.
The whole world came to a halt during the attacks on Paris earlier this year, the music world especially. The attacks of terror took place during an Eagles of Death Metal gig at Paris’ Le Bataclan music venue, where 90 civilians were killed during the shootings. Of these 90 civilians was Nick Alexander, 35 year-old British man from Essex. Alexander was the merchandise manager for the Eagles of Death Metal and a valued part of the band.
A funeral was held Monday for Alexander that more than 250 people attended at St Andrew’s Church in Weeley, Essex. As reported by NME, BBC News reports that Alexander’s parents, Barry and Sheelagh led the mourners, along with Sister Zoe.
Zoe told NME this about her brother, “(he was) a quirky rock’n’roll guy who always looked for the road less travelled. He loved being part of the buzz of live music,” she continued. “His main thing was being part of the team that made a show happen.”
When NME asked Zoe about the tragedy and the day it happened she said, “We put on the news and saw that there was a situation going on at the Bataclan, where we knew Nick was.”
“I know that venue, and I know where the merch stand is – it’s in a very exposed position. Events were ongoing and the mobile networks were down, but around 2am was when word started to filter out from the scene. That’s when we heard.”
