Members of Midlake, Grandaddy, Band Of Horses, Travis And Franz Ferdinand Form New Supergroup Banquet And Announce 2016 Debut Album

A new supergroup has formed and new record is on the horizon for 2016. Under the working name Banquet, members of Grandaddy (Jason Lytle), Band Of Horses (Ben Bridwell), Franz Ferdinand (Alex Kapranos), Travis (Fran Healy) and Midlake (Eric Pullido, McKenzie Smith, Joey McClellan and Jesse Chandler, pictured above) have combined forces to form the new band.

Some of the members, and recently Bridwell, are no strangers to collaborative work, with his joint effort with Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam being released earlier this year.

The mix of styles each member presents should make for an interesting record, which is currently unnamed, when it is released next year. The members have all performed genres ranging from folk, indie rock and straight up rock n’ roll.

Little is known specifically about the sound of the upcoming record, but Lytle and Pullido took some time to speak with The Dallas Observer.

“To tell you the truth, I’m a little mystified what the whole thing is myself, which is fine,” Lytle said. “I had a couple of songs floating around and didn’t have a home in my catalog and thought it would be a good opportunity to use them for this Banquet thing.”

Most of the debut album has been recorded, and is just awaiting final mixes, which will be done by Kapranos. You can add this to your list of new albums to watch for as the new year approaches, and stay tuned for any updates.
