LISTEN: Thao And The Get Down Stay Down Release New Song “Nobody Dies”

The new single, “Nobody Dies,” off of Thao and the Get Down Stay Down’s fourth coming album, A Man Alive has just been released.

Thao and the Get Down Stay Down have just released new song titled “Nobody Dies,” off of their new album A Man Alive. The new track is driven by a chest thumping heavy bass line, while Thao Nguyen leads the song with her deeply emotional lyrics. Her lyrics help to reveal a seemingly dark upbringing and obvious problems with her father, “What to say, what to say, what to say?/ Who could bother with a father?” she sings. “What to say, what to say, what to say?/ You made a cruel kid, come look what you did.” The new track can be viewed below.

As reported by Consequence of Sound, A Man Alive is going to be a more personal effort than other albums. In a press release to COS Nguyen said, “The record is essentially about my relationship with my dad, its trajectory. It’s a document of my life in conjunction with his, even though we’ve always been leading our lives away from each other.” This theme is evident in the before mention new single for the album. The instrumentation is said to be vastly different than past efforts by the band. This can be attributed to the frequent change in lineup of the band over their career. Nguyen, a constant in the band’s lineup, said the new sound is more about riffs and loops and features “more manipulated sounds.” A tracklist for the album can be seen below.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
