Laura Stevenson performed Elliot Smith’s “Angels In The Snow” Earlier this week. Laura has recently released her new album, Cocksure, which included a release of the single “Torch Song.”
“Angels In The Snow” is not your typical holiday ode, but Laura saw it as something she could make into a more festive and beautiful, just like the love song it is. In the video she performs a live version of the cover to make it more warm and holiday-like. Even though Laura could write songs about love and heartbreak, the Christmas season is nothing compared to the song from Smith’s unreleased music. “Angels In The Snow” is from Smith’s catalog of music that was never put into records and the song is from the album, New Moon.
Laura performed the song at the The A.V. Club’s Chicago studio, decked out in tinsel and Christmas lights like the regular chores of the holiday tradition. The song is tender and mild to put it very sweetly and it is something akin to what Lauren described in a post interview after singing the song where her grandpa was the guy who wrote the Holiday song “Little Drummer Boy.” It is very iconic that Lauren and her family share different takes on Christmas songs, this one is so delicate that I think it will keep the hot chocolate warm all night long.
Stevenson has announced some tour dates but there are more to follow. Cocksure is available for purchase on iTunes.
