Chairlift has just released their cinematic video for their new single “Romeo” off of their forthcoming album Moth.

Even though their forthcoming album, Moth, is not set to be released until January 22 of this year; Chairlift has released cinematic video for the album’s new single, “Romeo.” This is the second single that has been released off of the album, “Ch-Ching” being the first. The video was premiered on Vevo and can be viewed below. The tracklist for Moth can also be viewed below.

The video was shot in the heart of New York City’s Chinatown. That-go was the director of the video with some creative concept direction from Chairlift. “Ch-Ching” was also set in a part of New York City, which intrigues the interest that the city may share some sort of theme for the album. According to a press release the use of the slow-shutter blur technique in the video was inspired by the work of 90’s Chinese director Wong Kar-Wai and guest-stars musician (and frequent Chairlift collaborator) Kurt Feldman of synth-pop band Ice Choir as “Romeo.”

Caroline Polachek has said this about the video, “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved the chaos of Chinatown, especially all the layers and niches of it, so I wanted to set the chase there. We wanted to stay loyal to the lyrics of the song, which are about arrogantly resisting love until being tricked into it. We’re really playing characters here instead of ourselves, but the emotion is one that I very much relate to.”

Patrick Wimberly said this about the video, “My character in the ‘Romeo’ video is kind of the puppeteer, always there, making sure everything falls into place as it should, keeping fate on course.”

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
