Chairlift, aka Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly, have released another track off their soon to be released album, Moth, due out on January 22. “Romeo” was released today, along with “Ch-Ching” that was released a few weeks ago.
According to a press release, Chairlift wrote the song from the perspective of the Greek mythological character Atalanta. The character is known for being “a virgin huntress, unwilling to marry.” According to Pitchfork, “She made potential suitors fight for her hand in marriage by competing against her in footrace, and she killed those who lost. Most men died, which was just fine because Atalanta was more into boar hunting than boys.” The song lyrics are also posted on Pitchfork.
Chairlift last released an album in 2012 with, Something. “Romeo” sounds more like Something, rather than their last release “Ch-Ching” that will be on their next album Moth. The track has electronic pop vibes versus the brassy sounds in “Ch-Ching”.
