Miley Cyrus performs her two new singles with The Flaming Lips on SNL to kick off their upcoming tour.
Miley Cyrus kicked off the new season of Saturday Night Live with performances off of new surprise-released album, Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz. With the help of The Flaming Lips, Cyrus met great applause from the SNL audience with quiet and highly emotional performances of “Karen Don’t Be Sad” and “The Twinkle Song.”
After her introduction from Hilary Clinton, Cyrus appears in her very unique yet beautiful stage setup with a wig of mangled dreadlocks that fall down below her knees intertwined with flowers. Once the attention can be taken away from Cyrus’ outfit the backing of the Lips dressed as different “Dead Petz” is definitely something to smile at. As both artists are known for their unique styles and quirky attitudes there is really no surprise they the stage they both share will look like this. There was also no surprise that the performance would be as amazing as captivating as it was. The first song she sang was “Karen Don’t be Sad,” and although the performance was soft and low it was simply beautiful to watch. The first performance can be seen below.
The second performance was done with Cyrus alone on a piano that was dressed in a dread lock wig that resembles the one in the previous performance. The second song she performs is “The Twinkle Song” and the emotional punch could knock anyone off their feet. Keeping a smile through most of the song, Miley begins to let some tears flow down toward the climax of the performance but doesn’t miss a beat throughout. Finishing with a triumphant slam on the keys when the song is over, it is clear the Cyrus is very committed to and proud of the new album. The second performance can be seen below.
According to SPIN, The performance on SNL also served to kickoff her just-announced tour with The Flaming Lips, which she accidently told in an interview on Jimmy Fallon’s show.
