Alternative rock band Garbage have announced the 20th-anniversary re-release of their self-titled debut album.
Released in 1995, Garbage has been critically acclaimed as, “akin to a Jackson Pollock painting, thick layers upon layers of sound that have been stripped down, torn apart, pasted together and then stripped again, until the result is a dizzying soundscape that reveals fresh nuances upon repeated listening.”
The self-titled album hit the top five on the billboard charts at the time of its release, including hits such as “Only Happy When It Rains,” “Vow” and “Stupid Girl,” some of which had earned them Grammy nominations, and kept them on the U.S and U.K. charts for more than a year.
“This is a very special occasion for all of us in garbage,” said frontwoman Shirley Manson. “We are particularly excited about the upcoming tour - the intent of which is pretty much the celebration of a 20 year long affair between us and those who have loved us.”
Garbage formed in 1993 and went on an indefinite hiatus for some time, only to regroup in 2011 and record their 5th studio album Not Your Kind of People. They’ve also gone to work with New Brunswick rock band Screaming Females for a cover of Patti Smith’s “Because the Night,” and last year Shirley Manson released a song with Brody Dalle, “Girls Talk,” both collaborations in celebration of Record Store Day(s).
The group will also embark on the 20 Years Queer tour in lieu of the re-release, ranging from San Diego, CA to Washington D.C. to London and throughout Europe. You can check out the dates below and pre-order the re-issue here.
