WATCH: Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus And Mumford & Sons Cover Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams

In a seemingly absurd move, Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus joined Mumford & Sons at their Inglewood, CA. show Tuesday night to cover Eurythmic’s hit song “Sweet Dreams(Are Made of This).” Mumford & Son’s tour opener, The Vaccines, also joined the stage.

The band has been covering “Sweet Dreams” since a BBC Session late last month and has been playing it throughout their U.S. tour. The addition of Hoppus to their full stage troupe seemed arbitrary, but the Mumford/Vaccines harmonization complimented the low-key instrumentation that eventually formed into full-on electric cover, with Hoppus on bass. In the past, the band have also collaborated on stage with sister-trio Haim for a covers of The Rolling Stones’ “Dead Flowers” and “Honkey Tonk Women.”

Mumford & Sons’ recent release Wilder Mind shows the bands transition from folk-rock successors to more alternative side of the rock spectrum. According to Rolling Stone, the band didn’t have much hesitation regarding their change:

“We grew up playing electric guitars and drum kits, electric basses and keyboards, so these are like our first instruments,” Marcus Mumford said. “I think we want to just keep trying different things, because if you just do the same thing again and again, it gets a bit boring. Amongst the four of us, and especially because we’re all songwriters and all play different instruments, we want to keep changing things up. So, it’s whether or not people come with us for that; but if they don’t, I think we’ll still do it.”

Mumford & Sons continue their U.S. tour till the end of the week.
