Canadian music duo Majical Cloudz have announced an October 16th release for their album Are You Alone? which will be the band’s first release since 2013’s Impersonator.
The band recorded their sophomore album between Montreal and Detroit. Since the release of their debut, frontman Devon Welsh has been crafting what is now Are You Alone? The album’s proclaimed “driven vocals” and “elemental tones,” can be heard in the first single they’ve shared, titled “Silver Car Crash.”
“Silver Car Crash” is a parallel to their debut, utilizing Welsh’s strong vocals that develop a manifestation of bare emotions towards whoever the song is about; seemingly speaking on the contentedness of dying in a car crash with his lover, akin to the Smiths, as proof that his love is justifiable. Although there is more of an emphasis on his singing, they resonate with the emotional pulse that Majical Cloudz’ low-key instrumentation creates.
Majical Cloudz started in 2010 as a collaborative project with former bandmate Matthew E. Duffy. Devon Welsh has been working with producer Matthew Otto since 2012, and has collborated with the likes of musician and former classmate Grimes. Aside from Impersonator, the last release from Majical Cloudz was late last year, “Your Eyes,” an unreleased song that was played during their early shows as a band.
