Just Kids, a memoir written by iconic singer/songwriter Patti Smith, is being turned into a limited series on Showtime.
Smith, recognized as a notable figure in history for kick-starting the punk movement in New York City with her 1975 album Horses, has more recently been critically acclaimed for her memoir.
In Just Kids, published back in January 2010, Smith tells the story of her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe and their encounters with music legends such as Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, according to Deadline.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith’s memoir will be transformed into a Showtime series. The series will be co-written and produced by Smith alongside Penny Dreadful’s creator John Logan with Desert Wolf Productions.
The Hollywood Reporter also reported a statement from Smith regarding the announcement of the series.
“A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation,” Smith said. “The medium of a television limited series offers narrative freedom and a chance to expand upon the themes of the book.”
An episode count has yet to be determined.
