Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. (now JR JR) @ Union Transfer 11/3

There are a lot of new things in the works for the Detroit band formerly known as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., including a new name (JR JR), a new album (JR JR), and a new tour that will bring the duo to Philly this fall. They’ll bring their new tunes to Union Transfer on November 3rd, along with opener Brothertiger.

JR JR will release their fourth album via Warner Bros. Records on September 25th giving fans more than enough time to pick out a few favorites before they take the stage here in Philly. Along with all of the exciting announcements came the release of their first single under the new moniker. Take a listen to the new track “Gone” here. It’s an upbeat single that should assuage any fears fans might have about the new JR JR sound. “Gone” is the first new track from the duo since 2014’s “James Dean.”

Performing since 2009 as Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr, members Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott explained the difficult decision of shortening their moniker in a lengthy social media post. They opened by sharing how NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. had written them in 2011 to express his support of the name. But, the band explains, the name has caused some confusion over the years, with people travelling long distances in the hopes of seeing the NASCAR superstar. JR JR is an attempt to clear that up. But also, to allow the guys a chance to make a new name for themselves along with their growing popularity. Be sure to catch them this November when they take it to Union Transfer. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 24th at noon.
