Mikky Ekko’s debut album may have felt like it was a long time coming. The Louisiana-born artist released his first EP back in 2009. But his breakthrough came in 2012, when he was featured on Rihanna’s track “Stay.” The song, co-written by Ekko became his first charting track, hitting number 3 on the Billboard 100. He would go on to perform the hit song with Rihanna at the 2013 Grammy Awards, which ended up being one of the night’s most memorable performances.
Mikky Ekko would release his first official video in 2013 for his song “Pull Me Down.” His debut album, Time, was finally released this January on RCA Records. In March of this year, Ekko had another hit on his hands with his single, “Smile.” The song will also be featured in the upcoming film Paper Towns, based off the novel of the same name.
His latest single, “Watch Me Rise” is out now. The artist refers to it as “his battle cry.” He said, “It’s about overcoming all odds to be who you’re meant to be.” Fans of Mikky Ekko can catch him when he heads to Philly this October. He’ll be performing at the super intimate Underground Arts on October 23rd.
